The Greatest Game on Earth

Posted by Biggy on September 10, 2009  •  Comments

World Cup soccer is incredible. To have a nation behind eleven men as they fight both for their honor and for that of their nation makes games take on a meaning that no other sporting event can touch. World Cup Qualifying is the same, where men become legends and games are no longer just a sporting event, but a chance to become part of history. One of today's games was just that, a moment that millions across the globe will never forget. I will paint the picture for you, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are in a two leg playoff for the right to play New Zealand to go to the World Cup. The first match was in Bahrain, a nil nil draw. Today, the second part of the tie was played, in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia scored first, then Bahrain drew level. As the game entered stoppage time, Saudi Arabia needed a goal to go through, where Bahrain could go through on away goals if they could hold the score and end the game with the score tied.

So spectacular. So life altering. Games mean so much more when your national pride is riding on it, and what a spectacular example. Three minutes of why soccer is the pinnacle of sport.
