EPL Round 6 Predictions

Posted by Biggy and Chamo on September 18, 2009  •  Comments

While Biggy continues to embarrass Chamo in EPL picks (no, that is a lie) by pulling ahead to an insurmountable lead (another blatant lie) and even beating him in fantasy EPL (biggest lie of the day!) Biggy has taken the first spot in our Winner's Blurb area on the site and written something that Chamo told me two weeks ago when he drunk dialed me. This concludes Biggy's brief interval of telling you things that aren't nowhere near true. Outside of the fact that Biggy did win week 5 by the narrowest of margins, thanks to solid performances by both Fulham and Aston Villa. I do want to encourage everyone to participate in adding your picks in the comment section, as A) you will get a shot to write a blurb on our site, and have it up all week, and taunting your friends on a website that people actually read is awesome, trust me and B) if we get enough participation the opportunity to give away some LEGIT prizes from a third party is likely to appear. I can't tell you more on part B, but get your friends on here to start making picks, and who knows what might just happen. Now then, let us talk EPL.

Biggy:

First off, I'd like to thank both Arsenal and Tottenham for failing to show up last weekend in games that could have made me look like a genius. You guys are just swell. I'm also curious how Chelsea had nearly a half hour of added time between their two halfs this weekend. Do tell Chamo, do tell. Outside of the fact that my fantasy team continues to suck (but has a chance to turn things around this weekend), I am quite excited to continue to defend my crown as "Not worst Constantly Offside EPL picker." Maybe next week we will let one of our guest writers play too, to give me some real competition.

Burnley 0:2 Sunderland  Two important things to note here. First is that for some reason, the ESPN games on Saturdays seem to be stuck on Burnley, back to back weekends for them on the tele. Can't lie, I don't think Burnley has a big fan base in America. Good thing ESPN is building it for them. Secondly, "Hello, I'm Darren Bent and I'm going to force my way onto the England side for the World Cup Capello. You hear me? Good." A Bent brace bags bountiful beauties beside Burnley's banks.

Arsenal 3:1 Wigan  Outside of the fact that I think Arsenal is quite possibly the most talented squad in England, I also think they could be the best looking. Van Persie and Fabregas bring the ruggedness to partner Denilson's South America suave and Theo's silky smooth cool. That was until Adebayor got jealous and cleated Van Pers in the face. Van Persie's reply should have been "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful." Wigan will hate him for different reasons, as a goal and an assist from the flying dutchman lead Arsenal to a full three.

Aston Villa 4:1 Portsmouth  Fortunately, AVP, the initials of these two teams describe what is going to happen. Aston Villa gets an Awesome Victory against Pathetic Portsmouth. So I added against. Sue me. Two from Gabby, one from Ashley, and one from James propels my fantasy team to great heights. So, it will likely be one nil Villa via own goal, because good things don't happen to my fantasy side.

Bolton 1:1 Stoke City  A game that I hope to miss, somehow Stoke misses taking all three on the road when they concede a late equalizer. Bolton, already concerned with their position in the drop zone is fortunate to get a point.

Hull City 2:1 Birmingham  Chamo seems to think that every time Hull plays I predict that Jozy will score a goal. He is right. However in an attempt to reverse jinx him, Jozy will squander many chances and look like Brian Ching out there. If this actually happens, I take full responsibility for the failures of the national team for the next five years. Instead Ghilas gets both. Please reverse jinx, one time!

West Ham 3:2 Liverpool  West Ham was pretty dismal last week. Liverpool is pretty dismal in general. West Ham rights the ship in this exciting offensive shoot out, where Rafa pulls out the little hair he has remaining as Lucas has two assists in the last fifteen minutes. Unfortunately, both are to Hammers who finish nicely, and Rafa drunk dials Xabi Alonso and tries to get him back. Trust me Rafa, this method does not work. Not that I have tried it, my uh friends have told me. Yeah that's it.

Manchester United 0:2 Manchester City  Oh this one is gonna sting. Unlike last week, Man City will actually show up when they play United. Thanks Tottenham for making me look bad. I appreciate it. A goal from Bellamy and one from Tevez sends Sir Alex into a frenzy. Fortunately, three goals are scored by Ronaldo to change the shape of this one. Unfortunately, he now plays in Spain. Bummer.

Wolves 1:3 Fulham  Old Fulham decides to go back to their ways of last season, and beat the bad teams. Wolves say, lovely thanks very much we aren't bad just new, then give up three goals, including one to Eddie Johnson. If EJ can get one against you, trust me when I call you a bad team.

Everton 1:0 Blackburn  Currently, Everton has less points then Blackburn. Fortunately, they get the opportunity to change that by themselves on Saturday and do so they will. Of course, only by the narrowest of margins and not convincingly, as Tim Howard reminds everyone that Allstate's "You're in good hands" motto was made up by his club coach at age fifteen.

Chelsea 2:1 Tottenham  Poor Tottenham, first United punked them at home, then they have to go to the side that is leading the EPL in points and in time added on. Not used to playing 98 minutes, Tottenham concedes in the 45'+3 and the 90'+4 as Chelsea stays undefeated, and unbeatable when they score in time that technically does not exist. Defoe scores again, but Kalou and Drogs stay hot for the Blues, which everyone else in the league now has after Chelsea wins again.

Chamo:

After a dismal performance from both of us I'm ready to take over this week and finally take the lead in this prediction battle. Finally I get a day off from training and naturally Biggy is already on the phone making sure I'm writing some articles to keep the site running, so, as always, here is my Round 6 picks:

Burnley 1:3 Sunderland Sunderland, or rather Darren Bent, has exploded onto the scene again, while Burnley have apparently regressed back into the form that initially had me predicting them to finish dead last in the league. Given Portsmouth's form that may not be true, but there is no overcoming Sunderland in this one.

Arsenal 2:0 Wigan Arsenal broke my heart this week when they managed to come back from the most dismal start to any game I have seen in a really long time. Still, their resilience was commendable, even if the second goal was offside as well as a handball. Wigan's back line will struggle with Bendtner, who bags a brace.

Aston Villa 3:1 Portsmouth I don't even know where to begin with Portsmouth. They sold all their talent, brought in a bunch of untested players, and expect not to be relegated? At least the last few weeks we have seen some goals out of Pompey, but Villa is much too strong a side, especially at home, to lose to Pompey-in-shambles.

Bolton 2:1 Stoke Signs of life from Wanderers saw them pick up a hard earned three points against Portsmouth last week, and this week they can continue their point production with a scrappy win against Stoke at the Reebok. Kevin Davies and Matty Taylor snatch it for Bolton.

Hull City 1:1 Birmingham So I finally give Hull the benefit of the doubt last weekend, and they don't just blow it, they completely handed Sunderland the game, which I would have predicted correctly had I been more astute. This week I think they scrounge a draw against a decent Brum side, with goals from Geovanni and McFadden.

West Ham 1:2 Liverpool West Ham's lack of a strike force will struggle to find the net as Carlton Cole cannot do everything himself. Meanwhile Liverpool are still finding their stroke after an expectedly large win against Burnley, but won't get more than a strike from Torres early and a late Kuyt header.

Manchester United 2:0 Manchester City The matchup we've all been waiting for, but it's at Old Trafford this time, which will be enough inspiration for the Devils to duly hand City their first loss. Rooney continues his disgustingly good form, while even the return of Tevez isn't enough to give City a goal.

Wolves 1:1 Fulham I like Wolves and I want them to succeed. This fact may be why I am still losing to Biggy, as I seem to give them too much credit, especially with Ebanks-Blake still injured. Still, Fulham's away form last season says enough for me to believe this match will result in nothing more than a draw.

Everton 2:1 Blackburn Rovers finally got a win last week while Everton continue to struggle, but pressure on the Toffees to perform at home will lead to a hard-fought victory as their form from their mid-week Europa league game continues. di Santo scores his first for Blackburn though.

Chelsea 3:1 Tottenham Tottenham played well against United, and were a bit unfortunate to lose out 3-1, but their defensive frailties were exposed and Chelsea's strike force will be sure to have watched the tapes. While Defoe continues his scoring run, it isn't enough to stop Drogba, Lampard, and Carvalho from taking this game at the Bridge.

Burnley 1 - 0 Sunderland: Burnley haven't conceded a goal at home for 8 games. Turf Moor seems to be closed for business right now, for visiting teams. Robbie Blake to win it at the death and keep the dream alive.

Arsenal 3 - 0 Wigan: Arsenal to keep their first Premiership clean sheet of the season here. Diaby and Fabregas amongst the goals.

Aston Villa 2 - 0 Portsmouth: Villa dont need to take many risks here, going for a drubbing... but an easy win nonetheless.

Bolton 1 - 0 Stoke: A narrow home win. Mathew Taylor after 67 minutes.

Hull 1 - 1 Birmingham: I would have gone for an away win here, to be honest, but Birmingham have a growing injury list and I think they'd be pretty happy with a draw here. These are low scoring teams at the best of times... so, one goal apiece. Altidore and Larsson.

West Ham 2 - 3 Liverpool: This could be a really good game, especially if there's an early goal. Liverpool to just edge it... hopefully Gerrard doesn't score, but I have a feeling this might be his day, possibly 2 goals from him.

Man Utd 2 - 1 Man City: Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney take this game by the scruff of the neck and show City their first 0 points of the season.

Wolves 1 - 1 Fulham: Both teams will fancy this one as an opportunity for a win. I think Fulham will be the better side, but they just don't seem to score that many away from Craven Cottage.

Everton 3 - 2 Blackburn: Hopeful for a decent game here. Everton are more than capable of bagging a few goals on their day. Hopefully, Baines is amongst the goal scorers, that would be nice for my FPL team!

Chelsea 4 - 1 Tottenham: Yeah, the wheels to well and truly come off 'arry's wagon here. Tottenham are the masters of deception, and whilst they've got a few good players (Lennon, Defoe, Keane, Palacios, the injured Modric), they are simply not up to anything near the standard they should be, when you consider how much money their team cost.
