EPL Round 17 Predictions

Posted by Biggy and Chamo on December 15, 2009  •  Comments

Between the two of us we tend to make a considerable number of errors. Last week we totaled three correct results... our worst showing of the season. Along with that, we failed to include the eight midweek games, so this will be posted earlier than anticipated due to our lapse (and Biggy, you have till noon to send me your picks, because its your fault).

Biggy:

As usual, Chamo spends his free time blaming other people for his problems. Me for the fact he sucks at picking, me for the fact that he forgot there were midweek games, Hull City for the fact he was sick, and I'm sure he blames his teammates for his lack of skills on the pitch, with Chamo up top no matter how perfect the ball is, if he doesn't convert you might as well have passed to someone else. Last week was the weirdest EPL week I've seen in days. Draws all over the place. I did manage to catch (and predict!) a great Villa win over United, and Arsenal got it done too. Hopefully this week I can get it done as well.

Sunderland 1:2 Aston Villa Villa romps again, they continue to show they are the real deal and will likely test United for third.

Birmingham 1:0 Blackburn The sneakiest team in the league happens to be in terrific form, and they continue to creep upward by picking on a medicore Blackburn side, where Chamo spends more time predicting Franco DiSanto will score then I do Jozy.

Bolton 1:1 West Ham West Ham just cannot get it done. They just can't. Another gift sees them draw at the death as they give away the full three.

Manchester United 3:0 Wolves United will get it done, but I still don't think they will get it done long term.

Burnley 0:2 Arsenal Let's talk about Cesc baby.... and a shutdown Arsenal defense that doesn't have to do much as Arsenal holds 75% of the possession.

Chelsea 3:0 Portsmouth Bleh, must be nice to be Chelsea and have another easy match at home, this one gives them less trouble, thank goodness for Chamo's sake.

Liverpool 2:0 Wigan Rafa saves his job, again. The new question is, how many times can Rafa save his job? One more timmeeee. Is he taking over the Daft Punk smash hit as his own?

Tottenham 1:2 Manchester City Agree with Chamo, this one will be great. However Tottenham's struggles continue, and Man City needs to get max points.

Portsmouth 0:1 Liverpool What looked to be the final straw was snatched away again as a late winner from Fernando "I can't remember the past" Torres sends them home with all three.

Aston Villa 2:0 Stoke City Silly Chamo. Villa is on a tear, and they will run over Stoke too.

Blackburn 1:3 Tottenham Lol Chamo, you are such a homer, Blackburn is not good.

Fulham 1:1 Manchester United United spare themselves with a late goal, and I feel like I got stabbed. HOLD THE LEAD FULHAM HOLD THE LEAD!

Manchester City 3:2 Sunderland Man City is explosive. Whether it is external or internal we will see.

Arsenal 4:0 Hull City Arsenal. Hull. This is simple.

Wolves 1:1 Burnley More draws was the message of last week. So I give you draws!

Everton 1:0 Birmingham I'd like to give this a draw, but Everton looks inspired. Or insipid. I promise it will be one of the two.

West Ham 1:2 Chelsea Again, nice life Chels. Hammers are garbage, and even when you pronounce that with a French accent it still means the same thing.

Wigan 2:1 Bolton If I had to choose any of these matches not to watch, it would be this one. Hahaha Chamo is so right on this one. Wigan wins for the sheer reason that no one ever knows what they are going to do.

Chamo:

Being the heart and soul of this website is difficult, especially since I have to make up for Biggy's shortcomings time and time again. I only got one result right last week, but with 18 matches this week, I'm sure to beat my last tally.

Sunderland 1:2 Aston Villa Villa impressed against United over the weekend while I have seen Sunderland begin to fall off the pace a bit. In the end Villa nip this one, though its a glorious match to watch.

Birmingham 2:1 Blackburn Blackburn are the team that have produced the least number of correct results for me this season, therefore I will give them no benefit of the doubt. Bowyer is on fire (and to think I picked him up in fantasy and he has scored no less than three goals for me) and Birminham in gerneral have been in incredible form.

Bolton 1:2 West Ham Bolton pulled it off at home last weekend against Man City, but the little Italian is desperate for points and there is no better time to turn on his team than Christmas time. This is the turning point of West Ham's season.

Manchester United 2:0 Wolves They lost at Old Trafford on Saturday and have significant injury issues, but Wolves just don't impress me, even after their incredible victory at White Hart Lane. United need to find their feet, especially if they want to pressure Chelsea at the top.

Burnley 1:2 Arsenal I like Burnley at home, but if Arsenal are trying to keep pace then they need to pull the result. Fabregas scores the winner early in the second half as Arsenal struggle, but manage to hold on.

Chelsea 4:0 Portsmouth Cech is still between the sticks, but doesn't get tested often in this one as Chelsea begin to re-establish their swagger and maintain cruising altitude at the top of the league.

Liverpool 1:1 Wigan I just have no idea what Wigan will do next. Another 60 yard goal maybe?

Tottenham 3:2 Manchester City This is going to be a great match. Tottenham and City both have had recent struggles, but both produce lots of goals. In the end it will be close, but Defoe will scratch out a winner.

Portsmouth 0:2 Liverpool This is the hardest predict I will make all week. Portsmouth have been looking much better since their beginning of the season self-combustion, meanwhile Liverpool has managed to only look worse and worse as the season winds on. Still, if Rafa is going to salvage anything it absolutely has to start now.

Aston Villa 0:0 Stoke City One word: Sorensen. The keeper is in incredible form for Stoke, and Villa will be playing their third game in seven days. Stoke might not find the net as often as other squads, but they don't concede many either.

Blackburn 1:1 Tottenham Ok Blackburn. One more chance. Do me proud.

Fulham 2:2 Manchester United Fulham ruin United's season with a late stunner from Dempsey in front of the Craven Cottage faithful. Sure it only means a few dropped points, but they all add up, especially during the Holiday Season.

Manchester City 2:2 Sunderland Man City draws. A lot. Why I haven't jumped on the bandwagon that predicts they will draw week in and week out is beyond me.

Arsenal 3:0 Hull City They were awful first half at Anfield, but were brilliant in the second... or really Liverpool fell apart in the second. Still, the second half performance of Liverpool would probably draw Hull, which is a confusing way of saying Hull is awful, and don't stand a chance.

Wolves 2:1 Burnley Last season's promotion teams battle at the Molineux, but Burnley don't do well away from the Turf Moor, and it shows up late in this one as Wolves steal the points in an important win.

Everton 1:1 Birmingham Say whatever you want about the goals they scored against Chelsea, but they all held a large amount of luck in all three instances. Therefore, I am still not convinced Everton are capable of their past glories. Meanwhile, Birmingham are terrifying.

West Ham 0:3 Chelsea Sorry Zola, we need to rebound, unfortunately you Hammers got in the way. Frank obviously gets booed the entire match, but scores one, as Drogs and Anelka both bag their own.

Wigan 2:2 Bolton If I had to choose any of these matches not to watch, it would be this one.
